Community~                     who inspires and delights us  The Blessed Thistle supports passion and vitality in your life. One of the most important ways of doing this is by nurturing community ~ creating networks, introducing one another to alternative ways of being, pointing out signs in the road leading to paths you may need or want. Here are some links to people and places that we think inspire, provoke, support holistic well being or generate positivity and magic in the world.

www.healthyparenting.net

From their website: Healthy Parenting: Raising Happy Healthy Children...Naturally! A resource site about attachment parenting, alternative parenting, positive discipline, natural living, organic whole food eating and holistic health.

Why we love them: This site is a wealth of information for the discerning and conscientious parent. Everything from information about a gluten-free lifestyle to Positive Discipline articles or even networking to find support in your area. We love www.healthyparenting.net and we think you will, too!

And if you want to take it a step further, check out Healthy Parenting on yahoo lists. A supportive, intelligent and motivated list with parents from all over the world. The best example of a truly "online community" that we have found yet.

From their website: Herbal Medicine & Spirit Healing the Wise Woman Way ~ Natural alternatives for women with health concerns such as menopause, osteoporosis, pregnancy, fertility issues, breast health and cancer prevention. Hundreds of woman-friendly links, a forum to share experiences and lots of information about Susun Weed (herbalist and author of women's health books), workshops, intensives, apprenticeships, and correspondence courses.

Why we love them: What's not to love? Susun Weed is a cherished elder of the Wise Woman ways, truly a pioneer and inspiration to not only herbalists, but women walking the road to empowering health everywhere. 4 Inspiring people or events (including worthwhile organizations)

http://www.humboldtwildlifecarecenter.org/

From their website: The Humboldt Wildlife Care Center, established in 1979, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue, treatment, and rehabilitation of orphaned or injured native wildlife. The ultimate goal of HWCC is to release the treated animals back into the wild. Trained volunteers, with access to veterinary help, treat a wide range of injuries incurred mostly from human contact (i.e. gunshot wounds, vehicular impacts, etc.) ... HWCC treats over 800 mammals and birds every year.

Why we love them: We have a special love for the forest, it's wildlife and especially raptors (Ruby, the proprietress' daughter, is a Bird-child if ever there was one). The Blessed Thistle believes in supporting your local community as much as you can, and this is a great local organization. We encourage you to seek out organizations in your own backyard, and do what you are inspired to do.

From their website: "In response to the public health crisis of breast cancer, the Breast Cancer Fund identifies – and advocates for elimination of – the environmental and other preventable causes of the disease.  Founded in 1992, the Breast Cancer Fund works from the knowledge that breast cancer is not simply a personal tragedy, but a public health priority that demands action from all."

Why we love them: In our recent past, the proprietress worked for a wonderful Berkeley, CA based company that helped nonprofits raise money,  www.malwarwick.com. It was at this time that we encountered The Breast Cancer Fund. We participated in one of their fundraising events, an annual hike in the San Francisco Bay Area. Great people, working for a very important cause.

A very informative and transformative site; check out their link to 'Skin Deep,' an amazing resource to see how your body care regime rates in terms of dangerous ingredients for your body (or go here: www.safecosmetics.org).

From their website:

"Cari's music inspires us to live the vision of a new dream: the dream of heaven on earth."
—don Miguel Ruiz, New York Times bestselling author of The Four Agreements.

"Listening to this CD for the first time was a transformative experience. I felt so inspired about my life and my connection to the world around me. Thank you."
—Sabrina in NYC

"This music is of critical importance in the time we are in. It's like a light in the dark and it makes me feel grateful and hopeful, gives me a sense of peace and well being."
—Ellie Sarty, Esmedia

Why we love her: This songbird has an amazing ability to capture spirit surfacing and temper it through her voice, gifting the world with songs that uplift and behold the best in us all. Her album _Circle of Fire_  is an homage to the Four Agreements, the teachings of Don Miguel Ruiz. But even if you don't know or care what that is, you will find this album to be a dose of positivity in an often negative world.

'Fessin Up: Okay, we are a bit biased ~ Cari Cole is indeed the proprietress' sister. But don't let that stop you, find out for yourself how talented this woman is. Check it out.

Sharon Knight

From their website: In a world rekindling its fascination with myth and magic, Sharon Knight feels right at home. The San Francisco-based Celtic songstress brings her own brand of enchantment to light with her collection of original and traditional songs. Sharon has long been inspired by the fierce and passionate spirit of the Celts, and this is reflected powerfully in her music. Her latest release, Song of the Sea, features lyrical tales of muses and sirens, magical spells, pirates, phoenixes and otherworldly heroes.

Why we love her: Sharon holds a special place in our heart as Creatrix of a haunting and lovely song, Faith, that we adopted as a lullaby for our daughter. Her ethereal music carries you away to another time ~ a sacred place that still exists deep within. Go there, and be enchanted.

From their website:

Why we love them: The art speaks for itself. Surrender to the beautiful world of Devaluna. Your soul will be eternally grateful!

i Provocative and/or educational

Why we love them: A magazine that inspires and provokes the mind, body and soul towards the evolution of consciousness. Articles that remind us why we are here, and what we want to do about it. The online presence is just as informative and also highly interactive.
